Interlevin (and Imported Brands) – Patisserie Display Cabinets

Interlevin is a major UK supplier/brand that often rebrands European displays (e.g., Framec, Tecfrigo, Zoin). Their patisserie display fridges are ubiquitous in bakeries. These units generally have simple digital controllers and robust construction, but like any, they can develop faults if not maintained. Common issues include high cabinet temperature due to condenser or fan problems, and water leaks from drainage issues.

Typical Faults & Diagnosis: An Interlevin cake display running warm typically points to airflow problems. Check if the condenser is blocked with dust – this is a frequent cause of high temperature in Interlevin units. Remove the front or rear grille (with power off) and clean the condenser thoroughly; many issues are resolved by this step. Another cause can be evaporator icing (“unit iced up”), especially if the cabinet is working in a humid environment or the defrost cycle is inadequate. If you see frost build-up on the cooling coil, manually defrost the unit (unplug and let it thaw) and restart. Also, check for fan failures – Interlevin displays use fan-assisted cooling; if an internal circulation fan isn’t running, parts of the cabinet will get warm. A fan failure will often cause high temperatures or uneven cooling. The remedy is to repair or replace the fan motor. Similarly, if a temperature probe moved or dislodged, the controller might not read correctly (e.g., if the probe slipped out of its holder and touches something warm or cold). Ensure probes are in the correct position, or have a technician reposition/replace them.

Interlevin controllers may show generic errors (like E1, E2 for sensor faults, similar to Tefcold, as many use Dixell/ELIWELL units). While specific codes vary, a blinking “EE” or error on the display usually indicates a sensor or controller issue – at that point, contact Interlevin service (their manuals often say to call a qualified engineer for any E-code errors). For water leaks, check that the cabinet is level and the drip tray or drain tube isn’t blocked. According to Interlevin’s troubleshooting guide, water accumulation in the drip tray suggests either a blockage in the drain or an excessive ice build-up. Level the unit and clear the drain tube.

Fault Code Table – Interlevin: (Many Interlevin units use generic controllers, so codes mirror Tefcold/LAE controllers)

Code Meaning Action
E1 Cabinet sensor fault Air temp probe failure (open/short). Solution: Replace probe; controller may run compressor cyclically to protect stock.
E2 Evaporator sensor fault Defrost probe failure. Solution: Replace probe; monitor defrost manually until fixed.
EE Parameter/Unit error General control error (appears as EE on some models). Solution: Reset power. If persists, controller may need replacement/programming.
dor Door open alarm (If equipped) Door open too long. Solution: Close door; check door switch.
HI / LO Temp out of range High or low temperature alarm. Solution: See if condenser is dirty or fan failed causing “HI”; check if unit over-cooling for “LO”. Resolve cause and alarm will clear when temp normalizes.

Note: Not all Interlevin-branded displays have a sophisticated digital readout; some older models might simply have analog thermostats (no error codes). In those cases, rely on symptoms: for example, if the compressor runs continuously but temperature won’t drop, likely causes are dirty condenser, fan not running, or refrigerant loss. If the compressor is not running at all, check power, thermostat setting, and listen for a click (the overload protector might be tripping – indicating a compressor fault or low voltage). Interlevin’s instructions always say, “for any maintenance or repair, contact a qualified engineer or Interlevin Refrigeration Ltd”. Ensure to reference the Interlevin manual for your specific model (often provided with the unit) for tailored troubleshooting steps.
